Bronx: I’ve come to find out that the NYC Department of Homeless Services has a rule that single people who are staying at shelters have to leave their beds from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and stay out all day. This is why there are so many homeless people roaming the streets of New York they have nowhere to go. A lot of these people get so accustomed to being outside, not to mention being kicked out of the place that is supposed to be a roof over their heads, that they’d rather stay outside and fend for themselves.
Chicago: Donald Trump has said he would like to testify before the Jan. 6 Committee provided it conforms to his rules, including a live telecast. But he couldn’t possibly be that stupid, could he?
East Brunswick, N.J.: We are a 9/11 widows’ and children’s victims’ advocacy group that has worked for nearly 21 years for truth, transparency, justice and accountability. We were dismayed to read your Aug. 31 editorial, “It’s the people’s money,” which seems to forget history and robs innocent victims of their constitutional rights to hold murderers accountable.
Opelika, Ala.: Re “The Tuskegee syphilis study’s shame echoes today” (op-ed, July 25): The Tuskegee abomination wasn’t a study. To dignify it thusly is injurious, inaccurate and insulting. Educated professionals engaged in criminal behavior. They lied, they withheld available penicillin and they salved their corrupt consciences by providing uneducated and impoverished men free hot lunches, free transportation to and from the hospital and free burials.
