The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has accused the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of inciting its members to set fire to some markets in Accra.
The NPP in a statement signed by its General Secretary, John Boadu said the opposition had resorted to arson to express their concerns over the outcome of the 2020 general election. The NPP has noted with grave concerns and revulsion, the increasing spate of market fires being experienced across the country in recent times. The sheer rampancy and coincidence with which the markets are burning, coupled with the constant threats by some elements of the opposition to burn markets in order to drum home their concerns over the outcome of the 2020 general elections, leaves no lingering doubt that they are behind these arson attacks, the statement said.

Government officials appear busy to hang the various fires in the market on the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
An arrest has been made in the Volta Region, in connection with the Kantamanto market fire outbreak in Accra about a week ago, and pro-New Patriotic Party (NPP) newspapers, including Daily Guide, have in a coordinated manner reported that the alleged arsonist, is a supporter of the opposition NDC.
NPP activists and Deputy National Youth Authority boss, Akosua Manu, on Metro TV, on Monday, December 21, 2020, painstakingly pushed the arson on the NDC and directly accused the party s National Chairman, Samuel Ofusu-Ampofo, as the one behind the fires, insisting that the alleged audio recording which has him in a criminal trial, has elements of market burnings, murders and kidnapping among other criminal activities.

Within the past few weeks, the Odawna market at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra, Kantamanto market in the Central Business District, Kaneshie market in Accra and Koforidua market have been burnt.

Police deny arrest of man behind market fires LISTEN 1
The Accra Regional Police Command has denied that a man behind the recent market fires in some parts of Ghana has been arrested.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Effia Tenge, Head of Public Affairs Unit of the Command, told the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Monday.
She said somebody somewhere might have concocted the story and that the Police had never made such arrest.
A section of the media on Monday, December 21, reported that the Ghana Police Service had arrested an alleged arsonist behind the recent Kantamanto market fire.
They quoted an Accra Daily, which stated that the suspect, Daniel Dah Kormlah, aged 41, was identified through police investigations into the Kantamanto fire incident.
