In the midst of this global pandemic, saxophonist Jared Thompson has made sure to look out for his own well-being.
âIâd say since December, Iâve written a tune here or there, and Iâm working on another commission right now,â Thompson says. âBut Iâm just allowing myself grace. It just differs by the day or the week or the month. You canât bat 1000 all the time. Sometimes you just need to ride the bench and take a breather.â
As part of last yearâs virtual Indy Jazz Fest, Thompson and his band, Premium Blend, put together a docu-concert called 38th and Postmodernism, pairing a live performance of songs with interviews reflecting on the city of Indianapolis. With audio from the concert now available for streaming across all major platforms, our Seth Johnson caught up with Thompson for a phone interview, which you can read below.
