Rotterdam native Steven DeCarlo wowed the “Top Chef Amateurs” judges, but Seattle’s Danie Walker stole their tastebuds, and the win, in the show’s episode that aired Thursday night.
DeCarlo, a hairstylist by trade, whirled around the kitchen set up in the Portland (Oregon) Expo Center getting back to his Italian roots creating a Chicken Piccatta with Orecchiette Pasta topped by Parmesan-Reggiano, toasted pine nuts, and lemon zest. Walker made sweet potato soup with chimichurri topped with candied bacon and radicchio, inspired by her grandmother’s sweet potato pie.
