Fleeing teen went 110mph in 30 zone and had to be forced off road by police

Nazir A teenager was forced off the road by pursuing police officers during a 110mph chase in which he jumped red lights and went the wrong way down a dual carriageway. Adam Nazir, 18, was subject to a suspended sentence order when he was spotted at the wheel of a Volkswagen Golf shortly after midnight on April 21, Bradford Crown Court heard today. Nazir, of Agar Street, Girlington, Bradford, was sent to a young offender institution for 18 months for driving dangerously in breach of the order imposed for a violent incident committed when he was in custody. Prosecutor Eleanor Durdy said Nazir pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and driving uninsured and without a licence.

THE daughter of a woman killed on Bradford’s roads has welcomed new legislation that could see life sentences handed to people who cause death by dangerous driving. Under its new Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill, the Government is aiming to amend existing laws to bring in tougher sentences for a range of offences including dangerous driving. It comes five years after the Telegraph & Argus started the Stop the Danger Drivers campaign, triggering West Yorkshire Police to set up Operation Steerside, cracking down on dangerous and illegal driving. Ministers have said the new laws are part of the Government’s pledge to “crack down on crime” and “back the police”.
