Well, ive been going to the nihonmachi street fair for years and it never ceases to amaze me how it remains a traditional event of fun while constantly evolving. Being called the original melting pot of street fairs really fits. And joining me to explain how is longtime friend of the show, richard jue, the Board Chairman of the nihonmachi street fair. And also with us is a committee member, justin butac. Welcome to the show. Melting pot is a good description, right . Richard jue absolutely. Robert give us an idea, first of all, a little history for people who dont know it, when the nihonmachi street fair started, what it kind of started out as, and how its evolved. Richard well, it started out initially in 1973 withwe had a Cherry Blossom that just displayed the businesses. So, nihonmachi street fair developed from that way to display the nonprofit organizations of the city. So, steveand his group of students from the Asian American studies from sf state came up with this idea. And ron
Convention meeting of friends from all over the world. The buzz around the buildings is welcome business for San Francisco hotels, restaurants and workers who are hoping for a faster rebound from the empty streets of the pandemic. Some of the citys struggles with homelessness and open drug use are still evident. I definitely noticed a little bit of a change from when i was here a couple of years ago. In recent months, sf travel says for various reasons, some companies that had tentative bookings are pulling back. Meta has canceled its Meta Business Group summit for march 2025, and workday also has withdrawn tentative plans for about 53,000 Hotel Room Nights worth of events. Some residents say they do see the city making changes. And i do see a difference. There has been more cleaning and the streets have been more cleared up. Some Convention Attendees say the city situation was better than they had expected. Maybe it was during the pandemic. It was worse. I think so now. Better than my
Weather. South bay at 51, peninsula at 49 and north bay at 51 degrees. Weve got a lot of lingering low clouds. Yes weve also got in wind. Were expecting to see the strongest and gustiest winds as of now along the coastline and also in the San Francisco bay area. Right now 17 mileperhour temperatures. So they have died down quite a bit. But they will be picking up later into this afternoon which is why a wind advisory will remain in effect until 9 00 p. M. Today. Todays forecast expect to see a bit on the cooler side. Half moon bay expecting a high of 57, and in the north bay area theyll remain in the 70s. No 80s today in terms of the highs for the bay. Were also seeing a low pressure system sitting just off shore. That will bring the chance of some showers. Ill have a closer look at who is affected by that and the timeline coming up. Rain never off the radar. Wow. Cant catch a break. Well stay tuned for that, vianey, thanks. New details in a bay area cold case nearly 13 years after a c
Behind it and then an evolving project we have featured before. The power of elective memory and media that brings to life the experience of asianamerican communities from across the country spanning six decades. All that on our show today. We are big fans of cam fest and the center for Asian American media here which is launching cam fest march 9th with themes of internment, exclusion, identity were politics and cultural presentation. Joining me is the festival and exhibitions director who for this past decade has played a big part in cam festival. Give us an idea of where we are 35 years now where is cam fest at right now. We wanted to use this time to really reflect back at our festival. Weve had so many decades of just outstanding story telling. One of the big things that we wanted dodd is to bring backfill mz that have resonated well with our audience and keep asking us to bring back. But were using the 35th anniversary to map out the future and as you mentioned before we have som
