Joy is a word that can often be simple but a space that s hard to find. Lucky for us there are two Buffalo natives who have decided to create a new space to bring about joy!
Creating Space for Joy builds upon an improvisational practice deriving from African American experiences that connects the virtual and physical world to explore joy. Artists Naila Ansari (@naila moves joy) and Marquis Ten Thousand Burton (@tenthousandpoetry) develop a multidisciplinary work in process that imagines the performance of joy. They combine artist interviews, community discussions, and multimedia art to create an interactive archivable documentation of joy. In addition to live-performance and workshops, the space will build community through visual art by Tara Sasiadek who is a muralist, painter and installation artist. (@tarasasart)

Come on Board!!!!!! De Barrio a Barrio: Sleepy Hollow-Tarrytown and the World! Family Workshop
Let’s come together through music and dance to celebrate the beauty of our diverse community in Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow, and the beauty of people of color throughout the globe! The creators of the video “Black is Beautiful”- Producer and composer Pablo Mayor and Folklore Urbano NYC musician and Managing Director Anna Povich de Mayor, along with Dance Director and choreographer Daniel Fetecua will lead young and old in the movements and rhythms inspired by the words and music “Black is Beautiful” recorded and released recently by Folklore Urbano NYC. Join us in a live virtual event as Pablo explains what went into composing the song, and Daniel teaches the choreography from the video. After, share in a communal viewing of the video, and a Q & A to discuss what this means to our own community!
Two weekends of the theater and dance production January- February
If there is one thing 2020-21 has taught us, it is how to pull together to find the good and make the best out of any situation. The Reif Education programs have been doing exactly that.
Last fall, during a time when the stage would normally be ready for the curtain to rise on their musical and the studios would be full of dancers preparing for the annual Nutcracker performances, the Reif Dance and Theater Education programs came up with ways to keep the performing arts alive in the face of a pandemic. From Zoom rehearsals and postponements, to getting back on the stage, the actors and dancers are now ready to show off their stuff.
