The Gauchos got out to a 6-3 lead on shots by junior guard Lauren Lee, Mole, and senior point guard Danae Miller, but the Beach picked things up from there. Patricia Chung and Justina King scored six points apiece in the hosts ensuing 16-2 run that lasted until there was just under a minute to go in the first quarter. The final make of the period came from the Gauchos Miller, who converted on a three-pointer after Lee grabbed an offensive rebound, to close the deficit to eight.
Long Beach State kept it up in the second quarter, outscoring the Gauchos 21-12 to extend their advantage to a 40-23 scoreline at the half. Jasmine Hardy went 4-of-4 with nine points for the Beach.

Coming off a tough loss against UC San Diego last week, the UCSB womenâs basketball team will return to the Thunderdome for a two-game homestand starting this Friday. The Gauchos will be taking on the No. 2 Big West Conference team, the UC Davis Aggies.Â
UCSB comes to the game with a 2-7 overall record and 3-2 conference record, after narrowly losing to the UCSD Tritons by 73-71 in the final five seconds of the fourth quarter last Saturday. UC Davis will be tough to beat, as they are currently undefeated in the conference at 2-0 and have an overall record of 3-0 after defeating the University of San Francisco in November and beating UC San Diego twice last week. The Aggies have won the Big West Conference for four years in a row and are certainly on track to dominate this season as well.Â

Transfer Taylor Mole provided some scoring punch in her debut with the UCSB women’s basketball team, but it wasn’t enough to help the Gauchos in their Big West Conference opener against UC Irvine.
After falling behind by 10 in the third quarter, UCSB made a late run in the fourth but came up short, falling 64-60 to the Anteaters to remain winless on the season.
