The Willmar Public School Board on June 26 approved the original budget for the 2023-2024 school year, with expected general fund revenues of approximately $69.21 million and expected general fund expenditures of approximately $67.36 million.
Willmar Public Schools' meal program, particularly in elementary grades, has very high participation and that fact should help in planning for the fall, when Minnesota schools will provide meals to all.
As director of food and nutrition services for Willmar, Montevideo and New London-Spicer schools, Annette Derouin was always on the lookout for a program that could offer a new way to feed kids. She brought locally grown food to school cafeterias, and has been honored by the state and national school nutrition associations.
The Willmar School Board will hear an annual report on school meals and will also look at a contract to make improvements at Willmar Senior High School.
