A Great Horned Owl was released back into the wild on Saturday from private property off Fary’s Mill Road in Gloucester. According to Dana Lusher, president of Nature’s Nanny Wildlife Rehabilitation, the owl was rescued at the site last year in early November. When the bird was found, he was underweight because he was unable to hunt due to missing the keratin coating on his talons. The owl was originally taken to Nature’s Nanny but then rehabbed at the Wildlife Center of Virginia in Waynesboro. Nature’s Nanny volunteer Dawn Kellum is shown here as the owl is released.
