Vermont became the first state in the country to allow women in all combat units of the state’s Army National Guard. The National Guard Bureau recently gave authorization for the guard’s First Squadron, 172nd Cavalry and the 86th Infantry Brigade Combat Team.

86th Brigade Commander Colonel Brey Hopkins said there was “no doubt” in his mind that including women in combat units will strengthen the guard’s fighting force.

Have you heard the story about the Norwich University leader who moved into a student dorm in a COVID-19 pandemic show of solidarity? Sure you have. And now, thanks to a pair of national media appearances last week, America has, too.
President Mark C. Anarumo’s move into Wilson Hall, a Corps of Cadets barracks, on Jan. 29 began as an internal story, shared by the president himself in brief update videos.
The story then spread statewide. Dana Casullo and Burlington, Vermont, television station WVNY-TV/WFFF-TV, Channel 22/44, were first to report it off campus, with a story Feb. 3. The Associated Press followed with a story Feb. 4; Burlington, Vermont’s WPTZ-TV, Channel 5, followed with a report Feb. 5.
