Cllr Linda Bird, the Mayor of Greenwich, released a statement on Tuesday revealing that her partner, Tom Backelin, had died. Tom passed away at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich, joining the 340 others in the boroughs to have died within 28 days of testing positive for coronavirus. The local authority has agreed to withdraw its advice to schools in the south-east London borough to move to online learning for the last few days of term amid rising Covid-19 rates in the capital.
