Lance Arrow, left, and Dan Slightom, from Arrow Outdoor Signs and Advertising, work to install a replacement marker at the corner of Broadway and State Street in Alton. The previous sign, part of about 10 historical markers tracking buildings and other area of interest related to the 1858 Lincoln-Douglas debate, was destroyed by the semi-great Flood of 2019. This particular marker identifies the nearby building that once housed the Franklin House hotel, which was used as Abraham Lincoln’s debate headquarters.
ALTON A new marker has been placed at the corner of Broadway and State streets in Alton to replace one damaged during flooding in 2019.
