Cllr Putty supports Culver Road residents opposition to homeless accommodation

A CONSERVATIVE councillor in Basingstoke has called on his colleagues in cabinet to ‘find a different location’ for proposed homeless accommodation, after residents in Kings Furlong approached him, ‘petrified’ about the plans. The plans are being developed in collaboration with both Hampshire County Council and Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, with members of Basingstoke’s cabinet set to consider their endorsement this evening, including overturning a covenant which declares the land be used for specific purposes. Residents of Culver Road have previously raised their concerns about the proposal, citing anti-social behaviour and litter which they say has occurred at other Two Saints venues.

Ex-Basingstoke mayor ignored by Royals at Buckingham Palace

1/1 THE former Mayor of Basingstoke has spoken out about being ignored by members of the Royal Family on a trip to Buckingham Palace. Cllr Dan Putty has spoken out following racism allegations made by Meghan Markle in her in-depth interview with Oprah, which aired in the UK last night. The long-serving public representative, who moved to Basingstoke from Mauritius in 1970, is a ward councillor for Hatch Warren and Beggarwood, and also served as the town s mayor in 2014-15. During that period, he attended an event at Buckingham Palace, and describes being “ignored” due to the colour of his skin. He told the Gazette: “Royalty don’t want to know people like me. They see us, but they don’t see us, if that makes sense. Mainly because of the complexion of my skin.
