Frenchko seeks new COG lawyer | News, Sports, Jobs

rfox@tribtoday.com WARREN During a Wednesday meeting of the Trumbull County Council of Governments, the new county commissioner questioned the choice of attorney the public body uses. The council of governments, or COG, was formed in 2018 and is made up of many county communities. The townships, cities and villages pay a small fee to join the COG and can petition for projects that utilize the shared resources of the group members. So far, projects mostly have included building demolitions that use the staff and equipment of the Trumbull County Engineer’s Office, for which the particular community reimburses the engineer’s office for, through the COG. The COG also is working on a joint program to test fire equipment for safety and effectiveness at participating fire departments.

Board selects firm for waste collection site | News, Sports, Jobs

rfox@tribtoday.com WARREN The Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Management District selected a company to build a household hazardous-waste collection facility in Geauga County at a cost exceeding $1 million. Residents in Geauga County do not have a permanent collection site there. The board governing the district, made up of the three commissioners from both counties, selected Cavanaugh Building Corp. of Akron for the project. Trumbull County commissioners Frank Fuda and Mauro Cantalamessa voted against the measure, and the measure to fund the building’s operations. The vote occurred Dec. 23, before Dan Polivka’s term as a county commissioner and a waste district board member ended this year. Polivka voted with the Geauga County commissioners in favor of selecting the bid for the building and funding the operations.

Jail temp controls going electronic | News, Sports, Jobs

gvogrin@tribtoday.com WARREN Temperature fluctuations in the Trumbull County jail could have led to the possible spread of the COVID-19 virus, but upgrades to the controls of the HVAC facility also has added an unexpected comfort to the prisoners. “We would have some cells where the temperature would get into the upper 50s, while others would be roasting at about 80 degrees,” sheriff’s Major Daniel Mason, jail administrator, said talking about the former conditions at the lockup. Mason said the new system, approved Nov. 10 by Trumbull County commissioners, would allow for a more consistent interior temperature at the high-rise facility along High Street NW.
