On April 16, Senator Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) introduced sweeping immigration reform legislation (S. 744) into Congress. Almost immediately, seven senators lent their names to cosponsor the bill, namely Senators Michael Bennet (D-Colo.), Richard Durbin (D-Ill.), Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.), Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), John McCain (R-Ariz.), Robert Menéndez (D-N.J.) and Marco Rubio (R-Fla.).
An April 17 column revealed that it would take congressmen almost three days of nonstop reading to navigate the monstrous 844-page bill. If Obamacare and the stimulus bill were any indicators, does anyone believe that elected officials will actually devote that much time to inspecting this legislation? More importantly, will they publicly reveal all the sordid and hidden details concerning special interest loopholes, waivers and exemptions?
