The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gas sold in Massachusetts this week is $2.74, unchanged from a week ago, according to AAA Northeast.
This week’s average is 2 cents lower than a month ago ($2.76), but 77 cents higher than a year ago ($1.97).
Massachusetts’ average gas price is 13 cents lower than the national average.
“Refinery utilization is nearly back to pre-pandemic levels, and with gasoline supplies increasing in the last month amid lower crude oil prices, motorists have benefited from mostly flat gas prices,” said Mary Maguire, AAA Northeast s director of public and government affairs. “However, crude started to see some upward movement this week, which could translate to small increases at the pump by the end of April.”

Today’s price is 8 cents higher than a month ago ($2.66) and 69 cents higher than a year ago at this time ($2.05).
Massachusetts’ average gas price is 13 cents lower than the national average.
“We anticipate demand will continue to increase throughout the month as vaccinations become more widely available and weather turns warmer,” said Mary Maguire, AAA Northeast s director of public and government affairs, in a statement. “This will lead to fluctuation at the pump throughout the spring season.”
Mass. gas prices average $2.56, up 9 cents, after week of closed refineries
The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline sold in Massachusetts has spiked 9 cents in the past week, with analysts blaming the temporary closing of refineries due to inclement weather in various parts of the country.
The average price for a gallon of gas this week is $2.56, according to AAA Northeast s weekly survey. That s up from $2.47 last week.
“When close to 40% of U.S. crude production is offline because refineries are closed, there is going to be pain at the pump until operations resume,” said Mary Maguire, AAA Northeast s director of public and government affairs, in a statement. “The good news is the nearly two dozen impacted refiners are expected to restart operations this week, if they haven’t already.”
Mass. gas prices rise another 2 cents, now average $2.36
The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline sold in Massachusetts this week is $2.36, up 2 cents from last week, according to a weekly survey conducted by AAA Northeast.
The state average has risen by 17 cents in the past month but remains 21 cents cheaper than it was at this time a year ago.
Massachusetts’ average is 4 cents lower than the national average of $2.40.
“Most motorists continue to see gas prices increase, but at a slower rate than the past few weeks,” said Mary Maguire, AAA Northeast s director of public and government affairs, in a statement. “Part of that is due to more stable crude oil prices throughout January. However, if demand continues another week of substantial increases, we can expect to see pump prices get more expensive.”
