Northwell Health, New York’s largest hospital system and the owner of Staten Island University Hospital (SIUH), said Tuesday it would rescind medical debt lawsuits filed against patients in 2020 and will institute a pause of new filings, following a news report about thousands of such suits. According to online court records accessed Tuesday, attorneys filed at least 70 of those more-than 2,500 lawsuits which were first reported by the New York Times on behalf of SIUH.

An estimated 5,200 hospital staff members on New York City’s front line against the coronavirus (COVID-19) had received a dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine as of Thursday morning, according to Mayor Bill de Blasio. That number includes 3,565 doses since Wednesday morning, and the mayor said during his morning press briefing that the daily number of administered vaccines will continue to grow as the process becomes more streamlined.
