JONES COUNTY, Miss. (WDAM) A Sunday night house fire in the Currie community claimed two lives and injured a Jones County Sheriff’s Office deputy as he attempted to rescue one of the victims.
A 911 call came in at 11:21 p.m. Sunday of a structure fire at 11 Smith Drive. The caller did not know the address of the home, so Jones County dispatch assisted and located the address by pinging the cell phone signal of the caller.

JONES COUNTY, Miss. (WDAM) - Fire departments in Jones County are already having a busy year putting out structure fires. Just five days into the new year, firefighters have already responded to four structure fires.
“Once that smoke detector goes off, you have a matter of minutes to escape,” Glade Fire and Rescue Chief Dan McKenna said. “We typically see in the wintertime an increase in the number of fires, unfortunately, and it’s due to many factors.”
