In the last hour weve received a lot of new information about this, that this all started with a report of a man with a rifle that officers responded with less lethal means to take that suspect into custody. Now, we do have video of what the scene has looked like this afternoon. San Francisco Police telling us that this all started at around 310 this afternoon, when they say they received word of a man with a rifle here in the bayview neighborhood. Officers arrived on scene, and officers at this point arent offering a lot of details about exactly what happened with that initial interaction between that man who was reported to have had a rifle, and officers who first responded on scene. What police are telling us is that at least one officer used what theyre calling less lethal means to subdue that suspect. It appears that may have been some kind of non lethal round, like a rubber bulle
Good afternoon, im james torres. Its the friday kicking off memorial day weekend, and we already have some trouble in traffic. Behind me here is a caltrans camera that shows a big rig that caught fire over here on the right right hand side of this screen, there was a fire truck that was blocking some of those lanes. This is the westbound side of the bay bridge headed toward yerba buena island. If youre headed to San Francisco, three lanes of traffic are still moving at this point, but all of that behind it is moving pretty slow. Well take you live now at the bay bridge midway span, where you can see traffic is backed up quite a bit. Youd have to really get into the screen there because there is just a little bit of fogginess hanging out on top of the bay bridge. At this point, it will likely take you more than an hour to get to San Francisco from oakland. Heres what were learning. Alert about Police Activity near the intersection of jennings and carroll in the citys Bayview District. So far, what we havent seen is interesting. We havent seen any emergency medical personnel on scene, and we havent heard if anyone was hit by gunfire or transported to any hospitals. We have seen assistant chief david lazard here on scene. So some of the departments top brass on scene, as well as multiple detectives. Now, we did speak earlier briefly with police who say that they would be updating us about what is going on here as soon as possible, coming back to our live shot, you can see more officers now arriving back here on scene at what we are hearing. Was an officer involved shooting again, more than a dozen officers, detectives, some of the citys top brass inside this taped off area, at least two Police Vehicles, multiple other vehicles inside of this area.
