Yankton County Commission Reorganizes – Sets Meeting Time

3 months ago in Local Jerry Oster Photo: WNAX The Yankton County Commission reorganized at their first meeting of the year Tuesday night, swearing in re-elected Commissioner Don Kettering and newly elected Commissioner Wanda Howey-Fox. The Commission also reelected Cheri Loest as Chair and Joe Healy as Vice-Chair. Loest then picked up on a discussion of possibly changing the start time of their meetings… Commissioner Wanda Howey-Fox says an earlier start would be a problem for her… Commissioner Dan Klimisch says they could move faster with better meeting rules.. Commissioners then voted five to zero to keep the start time of their meetings at 6PM.

Currently they meet every other Tuesday at 6PM. Commission Chair Cheri Loest says they now often run late into the evening….. Commissioner Don Kettering says meetings should start earlier and be restructured… Commissioner Dan Klimisch says they could look at time limits on certain hearings… No decisions were made but Loest says the issue will be an agenda item during a January meeting. Dan Klimisch, Chairman of the James River Water Development District, says there aren’t enough incentives with the program…. Klimisch says water districts are having talks about changing the program to increase participation… Klimisch says part of the problem is the potential loss of property taxes to counties.. James River Water Development District Gives Water Quality Grants

4 months ago in Local James River Photo: WNAX The James River Water Development District has given grants to the South Dakota Soil Health Coalition and the Davison County Conservation District and the US Fish and Wildlife Service to improve soil health and reduce runoff. District Chairman Dan Klimisch of Yankton says less runoff will improve water quality in the river.. Klimisch says the grants will help producers with land management.. Klimisch says the grants for pipelines and water tanks will help producers get better water to their livestock… The district awarded fifteen thousand dollars each to the Soil Health Coalition and the partnership of the Conservation District and US Fish and Wildlife Service.
