For the first time since 2017-18, Eddie Jackson will have the same tag team partner for back-to-back years.
Tashaun Gipson Sr. is on his way back to the Bears:
Per source, safety Tashaun Gipson has agreed to terms on a one-year deal to return to the Chicago Bears.
ESPN’s Dan Graziano tweets the Bears and Gipson are in agreement on a one-year deal to keep last year’s safety tandem together. Gipson, 30, started all 16 games last season and played 1,054 defensive snaps on Chicago’s defense in 2020. Or to put it another way, Gipson was on the field for 98.4 percent of the defense’s plays. Only Kyle Fuller and Eddie Jackson spent more time on the field than Gipson. So, yeah, Gipson was a key piece of last year’s secondary and figures to be that once again in 2021.

With temps projected to be in the mid-50s this weekend, I’m tempted to whip up a cookout playlist and spend some time on the patio. And considering how the Bears have a knack for getting deals done while I’m cooking, maybe this is all we need to get Chicago’s football team to push a deal for a QB across the finish line. Anybody hungry?
• The day began with Cam Newton getting a new deal with the Patriots. Shortly after that, Tom Brady, whom Newton replaced in New England, had some contract shenanigans of his own:
The Tom-Brady extension saves the Buccaneers $19 million against the cap this year, per sources. The additional voidable years are there to defray the cost. It was another effort from Brady to keep as much of the team together as possible. https://t.co/65qAGO5Px7
