The New York Rangers fired president John Davidson and general manager Jeff Gorton on Wednesday.
Chris Drury was named president and GM. He was promoted to associate GM on Feb. 5 after he was assistant general manager since Sept. 2, 2016.
The Rangers (26-22-6), who were eliminated from Stanley Cup Playoff contention Monday, are fifth in the MassMutual East Division. The top four teams in the division qualified for the postseason. The NHL All-Star Game is a tradition that’s been upheld since the 1930s. For the past while, the starting line-up has been decided upon by fan voting. This year, it is being held in Ottawa, which perhaps is the reason behind four Ottawa Senators getting voted in. The Canucks are the only other team with four candidates named. There are some surprises this year: traditionally, the game is about racking up points, but the league has seen fit to choose the NHL’s top defensive pairing to play – perhaps this indicates a change of heart. The teams will be selected by two captains on January 26, but here’s a rundown of the players they have to choose from, not including the rookies.

According to Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News, the Sabres also fired assistant coach Steve Smith on Wednesday. Don Granato will serve as interim head coach.

Ralph Krueger was fired by the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday and replaced by assistant Don Granato.
The move comes 12 days after general manager Kevyn Adams called out the Sabres competitiveness and said everything is being evaluated, including Krueger. It felt right that it needed to be done now, Adams said Wednesday. I think we could talk about . could have been done before. For me, this is about results that haven t been good enough and I look and evaluate everything and I was trying to take a real, honest, fair evaluation, understanding the adversity and the situation our team was in, taking it all into account . I do believe every crisis is an opportunity for positive chance and this is a chance for us to move forward and to begin to get this thing pointed in the right direction.
