Sex and the City reboot, titled
And Just Like That., will address the absence of one of the show s most beloved characters, Samantha Jones.
During a presentation as part of the Television Critics Association press tour, per
, Bloys shared that Kim Cattrall s not participating in the revived series will be part of the show s overall storyline. Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis are all confirmed to return to their iconic roles for the upcoming revival, however. According to Bloys, the script will address how friendships evolve over the years, including the fact that they aren t always meant to last forever.

And Just Like That, fans were pissed. Some began to speculate that Samantha will die in the show (???), but thankfully, HBO Max chief content officer Casey Bloys set some of those rumors straight.
In an interview with
TV Line, Casey said the reason behind Samantha’s absence is rather simple she fell out with Carrie Bradshaw, Charlotte York, and Miranda Hobbes. “Just as in real life, people come into your life, people leave,” he said. “Friendships fade, and new friendships start. So I think it is all very indicative of the real stages, the actual stages of life.”
