A soundstage on Long Island may not be Broadway, but for Sarah Stiles it’s the next best thing.
The Tony Award-winning Broadway star, best known for “Tootsie” and “Hand to God,” is back in front of a live audience this time, with a camera rolling.
Stiles stars in Kevin James’ new sitcom “The Crew,” available on Netflix, as Beth Paige, the office manager of Bobby Spencer Racing, a down-on-its-luck NASCAR crew that’s always one stumble away from disaster.
“She’s just joy and fun and a bit of a spitfire, and she’s kind of the mom in the office. She takes care of everybody. She’s just a joy to play,” Stiles, 41, told the Daily News.
WHAT IT S ABOUT:
Life in the garage goes off track for a NASCAR crew chief and his racing team when a new boss shakes things up.
WHAT WE THOUGHT:
In the golden era of sitcoms, family-friendly funnies were recorded with real-time feedback from live audiences, filling your TV with laughter and heartfelt aww s. Hyper-stereotypical characters leaned in on their cliched characterisations in ridiculous situations - a grumpy dad, an overprotective mom, rebellious or nerdy teenagers and precocious kids. Sprinkle in the fun uncle or aunt, a few token family friends, an interesting background to drive the narrative, and you ve got the recipe for a classic sitcom.
Kevin James is a big deal in the Bentley household. âThe King of Queensâ is my husbandâs favorite show of all-time. Weâve seen nearly every one of his movies, and weâve even seen his stand-up act.
So when Netflix announced a new comedy series starring James set in the world of NASCAR, one of our favorite sports, I was pretty excited. But letâs face it. Kevin Jamesâ projects can be a little uneven, as evidenced by his last series, âKevin Can Wait.â
Thankfully for all of us James fans, there is absolutely nothing uneven about âThe Crew.â The show is hilarious, with fully fleshed out characters and a solid supporting cast to play them. And, best of all, you donât have to know anything about NASCAR to join the fun.

Brand new to Netflix is The Crew, a Kevin James-led sitcom following a NASCAR team who finds themselves making a dramatic switch in management.
When the NASCAR team’s owner retires, he passes them off to his young adult daughter, much to the team’s dismay. The lead character and team’s head mechanic Kevin Gibson (Kevin James), announces, “I have underwear older than her!”
Throughout the show, the two are seen clashing. Kevin prefers sticking to a routine, while his new boss is motivated to try some new techniques.
