By Advertiser Reporter A PENSIONER hit 104mph as he drove back from Asda, a court heard. Dennis Harrington, 74, who was caught speeding on the M4 eastbound between junctions 16 and 15 in his Jaguar XK, told Swindon Magistrates’ Court he’d chosen to drive along the motorway instead of getting caught in Old Town traffic. The retiree said: “Under normal circumstances when you join a motorway you accelerate down a slip road and mix and mingle with traffic that’s already on a motorway, therefore you adjust your speed. “When I entered the slip road [at junction 16] and came onto the motorway there were no other vehicles at all. I couldn’t believe it, the carriageways were completely deserted because of this lockdown.”
