President of the Democratic Labour Party (DLP), Verla De Peiza, says she remains unfazed by Reverend Guy Hewitt’s challenge for leadership of the party.
“Reverend Hewitt is entitled to run. I am not stumped; I am not stymied. It doesn’t cause me to stumble; as you can see, we get on with what it is we have to do on behalf of our party members and the people of Barbados.

The Democratic Labour Party (DLP) revealed five more candidates to run in the next General Elections.
They are Dawn-Marie Armstrong (St George South), Charles Worrell (St James North), Neil Marshall (St Philip South), Paul Gibson (St James Central) and Andrew Cave in Christ Church West.
DLP president Verla De Peiza made the announcement earlier today during the launch of the party’s new website at its George Street, St Michael headquarters.
She said the party was purposeful in declaring the candidates in batches, adding that 26 of the 30 had been ratified.
“We will continue to announce them in batches . . . . The candidates we are announcing in this manner are new. This gives you the opportunity to investigate each one of them and this gives them the opportunity to bask in the limelight for a little bit. We think that it is important that we showcase them and not what people expect,” she said.

DLP ‘to help people with challenges’ cope with ash
Article by April 13, 2021
In response to the heavy blanket of ash that has descended upon the island over the weekend from St Vincent’s La Soufrière volcanic eruptions, the Democratic Labour Party is in the process of finalizing plans to assisting people having challenges with their health and other areas caused by the ashfall.
DLP Acting General Secretary Damien Griffith, who spoke during the party’s live Sunday discussion on the eruptions said that although initially, Barbadians believed that any effects from La Soufriere erupting would have been mild in nature for the island, the fall of ash over the last few days quickly put those thoughts to rest, as Barbadians now have to deal with the volcanic fallout.

The Democratic Labour Party (DLP) says Government’s ‘hope for the best’ policy in dealing with the COVID-19 crisis is unrealistic.
Acting general secretary and spokesperson on tourism, Damien Griffith, noted Minister of Health Jeffrey Bostic did not announce any new significant measures Barbados would be taking regarding visitors arriving from the United Kingdom.
Since a mutated strain of the COVID-19 virus was discovered there, several countries closed their borders to visitors from the United Kingdom.
In an address on Tuesday, Bostic said the airport would remain open.
Griffith queried whether money was more important than the health of the nation.
