Two More People Charged in Damian Moosomin Death

Ferguson May 7, 2021 | 12:19 PM Almost a year after the death of a North Battleford man, an RCMP investigation has led to charges against two more suspects bringing the total number of those charged in the case to six. The body of 20 year old Damian Moosomin was found in the back yard of a property in the 1500 block of 105th Street in North Battleford on May 16th 2020. He had been reported missing five days earlier. 36 year old Denver Roy is charged with accessory after the fact and indecent interference with a dead body. A man who was under 18 at the time of the offence has also been charged with accessory after the fact.

Sixth person charged in Moosomin murder case

Others charged with Moosomin’s murder had more court appearances in North Battleford Provincial Court. Denver Roy, 36, from Sweetgrass First Nation, appeared on May 6 by CCTV from Saskatoon Correctional Centre. He is charged with accessory after the fact to murder and indecent interference with a dead body. Legal aide lawyer Bill Archer told the court it would be a conflict for his office to represent Roy and asked that the matter be adjourned while Roy’s file is sent to private counsel. He is scheduled to appear next on May 19. Tye Partridge, 23, from Moosomin First Nation, is charged with first-degree murder. He had an appearance on May 6 and his matter was also adjourned to May 19.

Last week RCMP Major Crime Unit South charged Tye Partridge, 23, from Moosomin First Nation with first-degree murder and Jannay Blackbird, 32, from Saulteaux First Nation with second-degree murder. Stormy Wapass-Semaganis, 23, from Edmonton, and Melissa Semaganis, 41, from Poundmaker First Nation, were charged with accessory after the fact to murder.

RCMP Major Crime Unit South conducted 11 months of work in the murder investigation. Moosomin’s body was found on May 15, four days after he was reported missing. “Investigators worked diligently since last May; gathering evidence, conducting interviews and continuing to push forward,” Sgt. Donna Zawislak of RCMP Major Crime/Historical Case Unit South said in a media release. “What began as a missing person investigation has progressed to charges of murder and accessory after the fact.”
