Dame Alice Owen: Pupils protest over racist language

Daniel Mountney Dame Alice Owens School in Potters Bar - Credit: Google A selective school has responded to students protests over complaints about racist language used by their peers.     More than 800 students from Dame Alice Owens school walked out of lessons in protest on May 7, after children and parents reported several incidents of racist language and graffiti. One of the children’s parents, who asked to remain anonymous, said they hope the protests will help force change at the selective school in Potter s Bar, which takes pupils who live and study in Islington, where it was founded in 1613. “I think the protests helped the school take on board some of the problems they have to deal with,” they said.

The Secretary of State has reappointed Richard Johnston, Paul Cartwright, and Gary Kemp as Trustees for the Theatres Trust

18 December 2020 Richard Johnston has been Chief Executive of Delfont Mackintosh Theatres since October 2004. He was also Chief Executive of Stoll Moss Theatres/Really Useful Theatres from 1992-2000. From 2000-2004 he was Chief Executive of the Racecourse Holdings Trust/Jockey Club Racecourses, which is the leading group of UK racecourses. Earlier positions included Director of the Birmingham Hippodrome and Chief Executive of the Contemporary Dance Trust. Richard Johnston became a Trustee of the Theatres Trust on 1 July 2017. Paul Cartwright is an executive coach and private investor. He is also a Trustee of The Young Actors Theatre in Islington. He was previously Managing Partner of Rutland Partners LLP which he joined in 1988 and where he was actively involved in its development through to becoming Managing Partner in 2005.
