ZAMBOANGA CITY - The funds used in the implementation of the cash-for-work "Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program of the government are not election money. Lawyer Roy Buenafe, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in the Zamboanga Peninsula (DOLE-9) director, made this clear Friday in a press conference here, saying TUPAD "is an all-year-round program" of the agency. TUPAD is a community-based package of assistance that provides emergency employment for displaced workers, underemployed and seasonal workers. "This program will continue even after the election, therefore this (TUPAD funds) is not election money. This is a program of the government to help ease the hardship of our kababayans (compatriots)," Buenafe said. Dubbed 2022 Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan (TNK) Jobs and Business Fairs, the activity will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 1 at KCC Mall de Zamboanga. Lt. Col. Assir Balindong, Datu Odin Sinsuat municipal police chief, said the victim Aquino Datucan was driving a black Toyota Hi-Lux pick-up truck when ambushed at 3 p.m. in Barangay Makir. Datucan was rushed by his companion to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. His companion who was seated in the front seat was unharmed. A female public commuter van passenger, identified as Sapia Mokamad, 58, of Koronadal City, collapsed when she saw the shooting and was also declared dead on arrival in the hospital. Police said she died of apparent cardiac arrest. Police found empty shells of an M16 rifle at the crime scene.
