An investigation into stolen catalytic converters and damaged vehicles in the town of Hanover resulted in numerous charges filed against an Erie County man.
The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office announced the charges Monday against 35-year-old Joseph S. Hoddick that include first- and third-degree auto stripping, third- and fourth-degree grand larceny and second- and third-degree criminal mischief.
The Sheriff’s Office did not go into specifics regarding the thefts and damages to the vehicles. The charges were the result of a review by the Chautauqua County Criminal Investigation Division.
According to state law, auto stripping in the first degree, a class D felony, is described as when someone removes or intentionally destroys, defaces, disguises, or alters any part of three or more vehicles, other than abandoned vehicles.
