SCOUTS from the St Mary’s Walney troop scooped the pool for Barrow in 1994. The youngsters, who would represent Cumbria in a regional competition after beating off the opposition for the County Patrol Challenge Cup, were the first Scouts from Barrow to win the trophy. The Scouts had won the cup after taking part in a variety of indoor and outdoor challenges, each scoring marks out of 30. Scoutmaster Clive Roddy said: “Our patrol is the first Barrow district team to represent the county in the eight years of the competition.” The next step forward for the five boys and one girl was the Regional Patrol Challenge in Ormskirk.
