The city is home to the legendary Dallas Cowboys, the NBA champion Dallas Mavericks, and the Dallas Stars, who left the Minnesota cold behind two decades ago. The Texas Rangers baseball team plays in nearby Arlington. The city also houses a number of world-class museums and intimate art galleries. 

Godiva Chocolatier succumbs to COVID-19 and will shut down 128 stores in North America

Godiva is one of the most well-known chocolate brands in the world, and it was reported that it decided to close down all of its 128 stores in North America. The chocolatier blamed the COVID-19 pandemic for what has become of their brick and mortar outlets in the said region. Apparently, the pandemic dramatically changed how people shop or go out of their homes to get their favorite food, items, and more. The changes in shopping habits hurt the Belgian chocolate company, so it was forced to shut down many of its stores in some locations in the first quarter of 2021.

Dallas area shopping centers have settled back into a pre-holiday pace

Dallas and Collin county shopping centers ended 2020 with lower customer traffic after a holiday season when safety was front and center, purchases stretched out over a longer period of time and more buying moved online. Once Christmas was over, customer counts at Dallas and Collin county shopping centers dropped off from the prior week, when people were rushing to complete gift purchases. Customer counts declined week-over-week at all 10 malls, outlet centers and outdoor shopping centers the week of Dec. 28 through Jan. 3, according to data gathered by Placer.ai for The Dallas Morning News. The shopping centers in Allen, Dallas, Frisco, Garland, Grand Prairie, Grapevine, Highland Park, Mesquite and Plano were selected for their geography and type of center.

Traffic from a year ago remained at more than 30% below last year at traditional malls and almost 20% lower at outlet centers, according to new data from Placer.ai, a foot-traffic analytics firm that uses location data from mobile devices.
