Dennis Wilhelm and his wife Janet said they went two days without power in their farmhouse outside of Edgeley before electricity was restored late Thursday, Feb. 4. Despite having no generator or fireplace, temperatures inside their house rarely dipped below 65 degrees, Dennis Wilhelm said. We brought in a propane tank and sunflower heater, and I made breakfast, dinner and supper from that. Had candles lit for heat. This is part of life when you re living in the country, he said.
His one worry was that water systems for cattle would freeze, but they didn t, he said.

EDGLEY, N.D. The ice is causing quite a mess at the gas station in Edgely. Frost has been building up for the past few days on almost everything that sits outside. That includes power lines, and it s turning off the lights all around the region.
Dakota Valley Electric Cooperative said customers need to be prepared to go without power for days, leaving some in the dark on the outskirts of town. My son-in-law and I had supper by candlelight, said Deb Wald, a resident who lost power to her home because of the ice.

EDGELEY, N.D. (KFGO) – Dakota Valley Electric Cooperative General Manager Mark Kinzler says the cooperative has made good progress restoring power after widespread outages in the western part of its service area in south-central North Dakota.
A combination of iced up lines caused by days of dense fog and some drizzle snapped some power lines and heavily ice-laden wires that started “dancing” caused problems with substations and knocked out power to about 2,000 customers.
Kinzler estimated a thousand customers were still without power Thursday morning. At mid-afternoon, he reported that with improved weather conditions, damage was not as extensive as earlier feared.

EDGELEY, N.D. (KVRR) – Dakota Valley Electric Cooperative says some customers, mostly west of Highway 281, are reporting outages and power line blinks due to ice buildup on power lines.
The cooperative says the ice is as thick as a quart-size jar and the weight is putting a tremendous strain on power lines.
In some cases, lines are on the ground or hanging low enough to be touched. People are advised to stay away from downed lines because they could still be energized.
The outages have mostly been impacting customers in the Forbes, Ellendale, Monango, Merricourt, Edgeley, Kulm, Fredonia, Gackle, Streeter, Jud and Alfred areas.
