LAKELAND Frederick Heid is ready to bolt from the gate once he begins his tenure as the new Polk County Public Schools superintendent after being unanimously selected Tuesday night by the School Board.

Mask mandate not enforced in stores
It’s nice to see that the Collier County commissioners finally agreed a month or so ago to finally recognize the importance of masks. However, this apparently was a political gesture and nothing more, since non-enforcement seems to be the rule, rather than the exception.
My favorite three violators are Home Depot, Walmart and Publix. Despite making many complaints to code enforcement, the obvious answer is nobody cares about these violations. A complaint is filed and nothing happens. No fines or punishment of any kind. I have complained to management in all three businesses and have been told “it’s not our responsibility to enforce it” or “ it’s corporate policy” or some other excuse. When is someone going to take responsibility for this?
