contingency plan because schumer can t go back to his liberal base and say we are going to vote for this bill. they ve got to come up with another option harris: that s where you lose me. when you talk to senator thune and talk about republicans in leadership, we told the other side we will talk about dreamers and daca after we fund the government. how easy is it to put on paper and sign that on hold everybody accountable to do it next week? i think that is a good idea, if they had a piece of paper. harris: i will give them a piece of paper. sandra: and a pen? i think they are going to need that. if they say support this bill, the president commits to doing x, y, and z. maybe schumer can say okay, let s do it. i think that can be option c. harris: for now, option b is in play. we appreciate your time, thank you very much. a fox news alert.
this. keeping the government open in order for that to happen is the right way to approach this. the approach democrats have adopted really is a disaster. harris: please forgive me, i m so anxious to get some questions and before you have to go. how do you make it happen so the democrats know you mean busines business? do you have a fancy handshake? if you say you give your word that you ll talk about daca next week after you keep the government open, why won t the other side believe you? i think that s what were trying to find out. the president has made numerous commitments to working with congress to find a solution on daca, both republicans and the democrats in the house and the senate have offered that commitment to democrats. i m not sure exactly in the end what this is all about. democrats trying to gain leverage, and i think see political advantage in a shutdown over this issue. i think they re wrong, i think
legislative victory. there are also a number of big issues that democrats care about, as well. are they going to be willing to single out this particular issue and then be willing to deal with the president on issues like immigration, daca reform, big ticket items all on the agenda. this is something the president is hoping he can push through. of course, the big question is, are democrats willing to deal with this president in a year where they re hoping to take back control of congress. that is one of the big questions, ryan, for sure. thank you for that report. if the president can get democrats on board for this infrastructure bill, he may have trouble getting it prioritized because there are a lot of 2017 agenda items that are already rolling over into the new year. congress has till january 19th to come up with a spending bill to keep the government running. they need to allocate hurricane and wildfire relief, reauthorize funding for chin and come to an agreement to deal with d
undocumented immigrants who came to the u.s. as children. last but not least, deal with obamacare issues that are a holdover from this year. so let s talk about all of this with cnn s congressional correspondent phil mattingly. phil, a lot on their agenda just as they begin to come back. what is your sense of how likely it is that they re going to be able to squeeze all of those things we just showed on and yet, also start looking realistically at some really major bipartisan initiatives is like infrastructure? the long list you just showed are must pass items. you ve got to fund the government. a daca deal needs to happen. mcconnell made clear, he promises something will be on the floor in january. the speaker of the house when it comes to daca acknowledged this is something that needs taken care of. all of those things will be done. the real question is coming out
