that could have been an opportunity. why would all the eggs be in one basket at the border? it s a rally and he loves rallies. but a rally audience wouldn t want to hear that, would they, compromise from him? no, i think actually, you might be underestimating the american people a little bit. if you look at the pool, data on the daca kids and border funding, people are much more willing to have a compromise on the situation, because basically people have to compromise every day in their life. every time you pull out from a parking lot, you re compromising whether you can get in and out. i think people are und underestimating his willingness to compromise on issues. so i think tomorrow we ll have more information after that
spire of california, the congresswoman reacting to the president last night. i wish he was sincere about negotiating on immigration reform. we do need to do immigration reform. i would have liked him to talk about the daca kids. at one point he was willing to embrace them and give them a pathway to citizenship. that should be a component of any immigration reform. sandra: he has been talking about that, right, ken? absolutely. that s what s interesting about her comments. he has proposed that. offered it on a silver platter to the democrats and to the nation and no negotiation from the democrats on any point. no matter what he offers, they say no. i don t feel like the other side has been willing to negotiate in any form or fashion. sandra: what do you think is the headline from last night listening to the president s speech? i think it s it was a positive message about america. if you look at what s going on with the economy, job creation, unemployment, it is a good
he does spend a lot of his time, watching his friends on television. first let s start with rick scott, the senator from florida. this is not a political issue. this is what all americans want, so if i was the president, i would sit there and say, what are my options? if congress won t do their job, if he has the power, then he should use the power to fund the border security. i think on top of that, he ought to take care of daca kids. okay. so that looked like a green light to say, you know, forget about us here in congress from the newly elected senator from florida. then let s look at what governor chris christie said. he is somebody who has a book out about the ups and downs that he s had with the president since they were friends and then working and helping him on his campaign. here s the advice he had for mr. trump. but i think everybody realistically knows in the back of their mind that it s not going to happen. i don t think republicans in the senate would permit it to h
countries during crisis. just one point of clarification. president obama and the democrats and republicans including marco rubio your senator did try to work out a deal in 2013 to pass legislation that would add billions in border security and take care of the daca kids. so legislation was attempted there before the president, president obama at that point, took executive action. one last question. you re in puerto rico, obviously, where the rebuilding efforts are so active and necessary and in some cases still in need and in want. you said before you don t want the president to declare kpae executive action that would take funding from puerto rico, correct? absolutely. i don t believe i mean, you look at the wildfires in california, you look at the hurricanes in texas and florida and here, this many needs to be allocated by the federal government. we pay our taxes. puerto rico pays their, you know, their taxes. and so we need to have a federal government that does the right thi
shutdown. i also don t understand why we re not having real conversations about funding our border security. you know, we have to do both. we don t want the government shut down. we expect our government to work. and number two is we expect our border to be secure. so i don t know why we can t do this together. i did an op-ed piece about this, it seems to be on the democrat side a lot of hatred for the president and everybody s got to come together here and on top of that we have to take care of the daca kids. we can do all these things. i went to do d.c. to get something done. there s a bipartisan committee meeting to discuss border security and they will fund, they will make proposals that do fund border security. the democrats say this is their argument, in december they offered $1.3 billion in border security. they are for border security, they say. what they are not for is a border wall, and that s what the president won t rule out shutting the government down over again.
