The Sylvania City Council in a called meeting Friday morning approved the natural gas line construction contract that is projected the connection to the industrial park’s Claxton Farm Poultry plant before the year concludes.
And the contract remained the same lowest bid amount despite the council’s June 17 questions of how it could be $207,454.51 less than the second lowest bidder. In particular, the council wondered about the cost per unit for the D Lance Souther, Inc., silt fence being 10 cents for a total $1,500 while the other offers were totals of tens of thousands-plus more for that specific item.
City Manager Stacy Mathis said July 2 the company admitted the silt cost was probably incorrect per the $774,068.65 contract, but D Lance Southern, Inc., of Macon, Ga., did not seek to change its total, staying at the same amount.
