Berea mayor proposes paid parental leave for city employees Beth Mlady, cleveland.com
BEREA, Ohio – Mayor Cyril Kleem has introduced legislation to create a new section in Berea’s codified ordinances to provide two weeks of paid parental leave for city employees.
The federal Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 allows up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave for employees to use due to the birth of a child, or to care for a foster or adopted child. Kleem wants the city to make paid parental leave available to both full-time and part-time employees, excluding temporary or seasonal employees. The number of available leave hours for part-time employees would be prorated based on the average number of hours they work.
