Brainerd, MN (KROC AM News) - Two northern Minnesotans were taken to the hospital Friday after the vehicle they were in collided with a bear.
The Minnesota State Patrol says the SUV was on a rural road near Brainerd around 8:30 Friday night when it hit the bear.
The State Patrol says the vehicle “went off the road from the collision striking a tree and then overturned.”
The driver was identified as 19-year-old Tyler Peterson of Brainerd. His passenger was identified as 20-year-old Cynthia Thompson, also of Brainerd.

BRAINERD, Minn. (AP) - Two people are recovering from injuries they suffered when their sport utility vehicle hit a bear in east-central Minnesota. The Minneapolis Star Tribune reported that 19-year-old Tyler S. Peterson and 20-year-old Cynthia Thompson, both of Brainerd, were northbound on Highway 25 in Crow Wing County on Friday night when they hit the bear, went off the road and overturned.
Both were wearing their seat belts, the Minnesota State Patrol said. They were taken to a hospital in Brainerd with non-life-threatening injuries. The patrol says alcohol was not involved.
