HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) Some University of Southern Mississippi students are working on a project to document the story of a Black man who was barred from attending the university in the 1950s.
Clyde Kennard was denied entry between 1955 and 1959 and later died after inadequate medical treatment while serving prison time for crimes he did not commit, philosophy professor Samuel Bruton said in a news release from the university.

In one of the concluding events of Women’s History Month at The University of Southern Mississippi (USM), the Office of Inclusion and Multicultural Engagement, Dean of Students Office and Men of Excellence sponsored the annual Women of Excellence awards event March 31 on the Hattiesburg campus.
Inez Doe, founder of Ufancii, served as keynote speaker for the event.

An inauguration ceremony for University of Southern Mississippi (USM) Student Government Association (SGA) executive officers will be held Wednesday, April 7 at 6 p.m. in Bennett Auditorium on the Hattiesburg campus.
Prior to their swearing in ceremony, the new SGA officers will participate in the Legacy of the Coin ceremony at 4:30 p.m. in the Leadership and Student Involvement offices, located in the Student Activities Hub.
SGA executive officers to be inaugurated include: President: Lucas Williams, a public relations and advertising major from Picayune, Mississippi Senior Vice President: Cynthia Myles, a political science and legal studies
