A growing number of U.S. school systems are removing
mask requirements for students. But some public health experts and parents are concerned that it is too soon to lift the rules.
In Florida, the head of a school system recently announced she would agree to remove a mask requirement that had been in place since September. The decision came after a long, angry fight over mask requirements.

As a lengthy, bitter fight over mask requirements for students neared its conclusion, the chairperson of a Florida school board announced that she would agree to lift a mandate that had been in place since September even though she preferred leaving it in place until the end of the academic year. Parents hurled insults in response.
“Communist! Democrat!,” opponents of making children wear masks in school shouted as board chair Wei Ueberschaer and the district superintendent explained at a May 3 meeting that they still considered masks advisable. “This is Santa Rosa County, America, not China!”
Here’s how two mothers in the same county have totally different views on masks in schools
Like many moms of teens, Rachael Colón has to rush in the mornings to get her daughter up and ready for school. Maleah, 16, likes to sleep in. As she runs out the door to catch the bus, her mother makes sure she has her mask.
Maleah has asthma and many other students at Navarre High School no longer wear masks, her mom tells CNN, wearing a KN95 mask as she chats outside.
“It’s a very simple means to help prevent disease spread, and it’s been something that people have been doing for years,” she said. “Every time you go to your dentist’s office or you go to have surgery, people are wearing a mask.”
Dr Anthony Fauci said on CBS This Morning that parents should be encouraged to get their children vaccinated against COVID-19 but that mandating shots could get a lot of pushback.
