dire warning. so let s see how all this shakes out. we take you live to joel brown who is in washington with the latest. betty, good morning. short on time and high on frustration, senate republicans unveiled their debt limit plan b, while president obama was on the evening news last night spelling out the scary uncertainties as he sees it of a default. president obama is raising the stakes in the battle over the debt limit. i cannot guarantee that those checks go out on august 3rd if we haven t resolved this issue. reporter: tuesday he told cbs anchor scott pelley tens of billions of dollars of social security, veterans and social security checks could be in jeopardy if lawmakers don t raise the debt limit by august 2 right-hand. the way it gets resolved is if all of us make some compromises and take a balanced approach that finally deals with this debt and deficit in a serious way. reporter: both sides will meet again this afternoon but if the senate s top republi

today and anthony, a 25-year-old single mother accused of killing her two-year-old daughter three years ago could face the death penalty if convicted. cbs news 48 hours mystery correspondent troy roberts has been covering the case and has the latest. reporter: for three years casey anthony has fought the notion that she killed her own child caylee. mama, papa. reporter: in 2008 caylee was a spirited two-year-old girl. then a missing person. and a murder victim. casey was her 22-year-old single mom who raised caylee with her grandparents cindy and george, all living together under one roof. but in june 2008 casey abruptly left home with caylee. the family did not see caylee for a month. i found out my granddaughter has been taken . reporter: in july the police got a frantic 911 call from casey s mother cindy. casey s car had turned up in a tow pound.ñ@v i found my daughter s car today and it smells like there s been a dead body in the car. reporter: casey cla
