Tesla
The overall wedge shape and bare stainless steel finish aren t going anywhere but it s possible the overall dimensions will be slightly downsized. Musk is fully aware the looks aren t for everyone and that if it turns out nobody wants to buy a weird-looking truck, we ll build a normal truck, no problem.
The Cybertruck will face competition not only from the Rivian R1T but also the all-electric Ford F-150, supposedly dubbed the E-150. GM and Ram will soon follow with battery-electric-only trucks of their own. Those who are willing to pay well above the Cybertruck s $40,000 base price also have the GMC Hummer EV to consider. The Cybertruck is merely just one player in what s shaping up to be a serious all-electric truck battle.
Elon Musk will not be impressed.
It s easy to criticize the Tesla Cybertruck from our sofas or behind our laptop screens. Its angular design looks like it s from another planet, it doesn t look safe for pedestrians, and there are numerous upcoming electric trucks that are simply easier on the eye.
But what do qualified, trained automotive designers think about it? Well, Frank Stephenson - one of the most prolific of them all - recently posted a new video deconstructing the Cybertruck s design. Remember, this is the guy who created the McLaren P1, the first-gen BMW X5, and the Ferrari F430, so he knows what he s talking about.
But the companies he heads won t follow suit - at least for now.
Months after feuding with the state of California and the county of Alameda over its coronavirus restrictions, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has officially pulled up stakes and moved to Texas - the future home of the Tesla Cybertruck.
The executive filed a lawsuit against Alameda County in May and threatened to move the headquarters of Tesla and SpaceX - companies that he controls - out of California and to Texas or Nevada over Alameda s refusal to grant Tesla permission to reopen its Fremont, California factory. California had largely reopened at the time, but with a provision allowing individual counties to enforce their own, stricter shelter-in-place orders. Musk nonetheless blasted Alameda s restrictions on regular business operations as being illegal, daring officials to arrest him for violating the orders.
