At least two people have been killed and many others have been injured. Rescue teams worked throughout the night to free those trapped in collapsed buildings. The quake struck 1a miles northeast of hualien, shortly before midnight. One eyewitness was on air with the bbc when an aftershock hit. Heres laura westbrook.
