it there. we ve got some great video and pictures we re going to be showing throughout the show as well from people, and our blog is up and running. cnn.com/amfix for all the latest. meanwhile, there s another story we ve been following this morning that we still don t know exactly what s going on, but there s a lot of questions after an incident at miami international airport. a security scare. a suspicious item was spotted in the baggage area. much of the airport was shut down. the bomb squad was called in. the feds detained one passenger. john zarella live in miami with the latest. john, what do you know? reporter: ali, kiran, the airport is open. that is the good news. but it was closed for about eight hours starting about 9:00 p.m. last night. what happened was the screeners in the customs area found a suspicious package with, according to airport authorities, multiple items that looked suspicious in that package. immediately, the airport was evacuated. about 100 passenger
that certainly wasn t the case last night and into the early hours this morning when the airport had to be evacuated and the bomb squad called in and there was apparently some very good reason for why authorities from the fbi homeland security, miami-dade metro dade police, were taking this very, very s r seriously. here is what we know happened. about 9:00 last night screeners at the airport found in someone s luggage at the international terminal in the customs area what looked like a canister. so that s when the bomb squad was called in. they did not find any explosives in that after examining it at the airport. it has been taken away for further examination. but what a source is telling cnn now, a source very close to the investigation, is that a 70-year-old sicientist is the mn who owned the luggage and whose canister it apparently was. and this scientist, it turns out, according to the source, served time in prison almost a
this river was only three feet deep on sunday. it got up to over 40 feet, 42 feet. now it s down around 39 feet. it s got a long way to go, but we re headed in the right direction. a couple of homes were evacua evacuated. that s about it. those people now just waiting for the water to come down another couple feet so they can get back in. some have already gotten back in and started the cleanup process. overall, this is just a drop in the bucket as far as impact on either city. most of the impact right along the river, and mostly the customs area. drinking water is fine. we re just waiting for the sun to come back out, and it will this weekend as temperatures held towards the century mark, which is much more typical than what we ve seen over the past few days. it s been a cool july with all the rain in recent weeks. it s so great there. i was assuming it was chilly.
