Public health to begin vaccinating adolescents against COVID-19; free rides offered to vaccine sites

Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health and Mandan-based Custer Health both announced Monday that they soon will begin vaccinating adolescents against COVID-19. Separately, state and local officials announced a program to provide free taxi rides to vaccine sites in the area, using federal coronavirus relief money. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention last week authorized the emergency use of the Pfizer vaccine for adolescents, andÂ North Dakota s Health Department began recommending thatÂ adolescents from the age of 12 to 17 be vaccinated for COVID-19. Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health will provide a Pfizer shot to people age 12 and older at its vaccination event from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday at the Bismarck Event Center. Officials work to get people vaccinated for COVID-19 as demand slows, but skepticism remains

Vaccine providers are trying to encourage more North Dakotans to get a COVID-19 shot as demand plateaus, but many people remain skeptical of the available vaccines. (NewsDakota.com) – With more than a half-million COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in North Dakota, more than 260,000 North Dakotans have received at least one vaccination in the fight against a global pandemic. However, local public health administrators in the southwest central region (Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health, Custer Health, Emmons County Public Health and Kidder County District Health Unit) acknowledge that the region and the state has not yet reached the herd immunity goal of 70 percent of the population vaccinated. “Local public health has been extremely busy with vaccinations the past few months, but we have a lot more work to do in our region to meet our goal of 70 percent fully vaccinated. Vaccinations are key to ending this pandemic, and are especially important as we continue to see an increase of COVID-19 variants throughout the state,” said Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health Director, Renae Moch.
