I am here to tell the story of cheryl china coworker and member of the tenderloin peoples congress. On wednesday of this week cheryl was attacked on the corner of golden gate and leavenworth across the street from my office. A whole can of mace was unloaded to her. She ran across the street and was briefly pursued by the gentleman who unloaded the mace on her. He unloaded a whole can of mace. Under no circumstance is that okay in any circumstance. Cheryl is very traumatized by this. She is not feeling good. She is in the condition i havent personally seen her in before, and she believes like i did that if we had treatment on demand, this never would have happened. Treatment on demand if it was implemented years ago, the Mental Health of the people in the tenderloin would be better and this never would happen. You mentioned the fact that there are times when you cant address the need right away and part of the waiting time is because you cant draw down the reimbursement dollars. Uhhuh. I know i was looking at the slide in what areas of need, but it seems like when you cant help some participants, its due to cost reimbursement and not necessarily due to capacity. So would you say a gap funding or some way to eliminate their wait time to able to help a patient right away is important for addressing the need immediately . Yes. I mean, i think in general, we have come to understand the managed care system that is drug medical, and you think the county has been a learning process. We know that somebody will be eligible. We would like to put them in a bed and we will work out the funding after the fact. And yeah one think that would be helpful. Thank you. I dont want to oversell it. Your confidence collapses. I would almost argue that every person who experiences homelessness in the city, especially the way the city is right now, is partially suicidal. I thought about it when i was homeless before i got in the shelter i thought about suicide at least once or twice each week. That changed when i finally got into a shelter. What it means to basically have a safe place. I went from being with the coalition it is having a safe consumption site. I live in the tenderloin. I dont want to see people having to be on the streets with dirty hands injecting something into their body to kill them with bacteria. I went to see a place where people can go to do their drugs and this is coming from Harm Reduction model completely. I worked at the foundation and we had needles in the 80s and 90s, it was against the law but we did it anyway. I want the city to stand up and take care of the citizens.
