North Peace Museum welcomes interactive exhibit on local Indigenous communities

Curator Heather Sjoblom says there is also a half-scale model of ancient bison bones that have been found. “It’s a great way to learn more about Indigenous history and to understand more about the impacts that the Site C dam is going to have on these communities and historical places of significance,” says Sjoblom. The exhibit will be available until sometime in June, depending on when it starts to circulate the Indigenous communities in the area. The North Peace Museum is open Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Regular admission fees apply adults $7, seniors $6, students $4, and children five and under are free.

North Peace Museum collecting information to profile Veterans of the North Peace

Dec 10, 2020 12:47 PM FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – A major undertaking is currently underway to profile the Veterans of Fort St. John and the North Peace. According to Fort St. John North Peace Museum Manager and Curator Heather Sjoblom, there are two parts to this project for profiling local Veterans. Sjoblom says the project first started out with three volunteers, Tamara Secrist, Warren Moore, and Jim McKnight, helping the Museum to compile a database of Veterans in the area from World War One all the way up to present time, such as where they were born and their service records. Then coming out of that work, the second part of the project is where volunteer Lana-Gay Elliott is collecting more names and stories of locals who served our country. This information is also being collected as an expansion of the Museum’s database.
