ST. JOHN AME CHURCH, 1117 W. Pullen St., will provide food boxes for people in need from 9-11 a.m. Saturday. The drive-through giveaway will be held in front of the church on Cherry Street. State IDs are required to receive one box per family. For safety reasons, recipients are asked to stay in their vehicles and open their trunks, according to a news release. Financial support for this program is welcomed. Donations can be mailed to St. John AME Church-Feeding Ministry, 1117 W. Pullen St., Pine Bluff, Ark., 71601, or given electronically through Givelify St John AME Pine Bluff. To volunteer, people may email Pearl Matlock at pearl1948@sbcglobal.net.

FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH PINE BLUFF, 6501 S. Hazel St., will have a one-day Vacation Bible School from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 23. This event is free and open to all children who have completed pre-K through grade 6. (Children must be at least 5 years old by Aug. 1.) After the event, a family "cook-in" for all participants and their families will take place in the fellowship hall. "(VBS) will be an exciting day of Christ-centered activities, music, crafts, a Bible story, and tons of fun to the children of Pine Bluff and their friends. The lessons will be centered on how God created, designed, and empowered each of us," a spokesman said.
